8 Ways to Celebrate the 4th of July This Year

Your 4th of July celebration may look a little different this year, but it doesn’t have to be any less fun. Keep your little fireworks’ patriotic spirit burning bright with these creative ideas.

1. Host a DIY Bike Parade

Can’t go to a parade? Host your own! Have your kids decorate their bikes in red white and blue--and ride around town in their patriotic wheels.

Have a little one who's not old enough for a bike? Let them decorate their stroller instead.

2. Set the Scene

Nothing screams festive like Christmas lights…even on the 4th of July.

If your little one is disappointed about not seeing fireworks, surprise them by lighting up your whole home.

3. Listen to Patriotic Pop

Get your groove on and listen to a 4th of July playlist. Create your own and fill it with their favorite patriotic tunes like Party in the USA by Miley Cyrus or Firework by Katy Perry.

Not feeling creative? Check out this pre-made playlist on Spotify.

4. Backyard Games

Cool down by setting up a sprinkler or hosting a water balloon toss. Or have some DIY fun with these backyard game ideas.

5. Play some Glow Games

Got glow-sticks on hand? Light up the night with these glow-stick inspired games.

6. Test your American Trivia

Get the family involved with this fun American-themed quiz.

7. Make Some Festive Treats

Just because you can’t have your large family barbeque doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy all your favorite meals. Gather everyone in the kitchen and make one of these fun treats.

8. Watch a Firework Show

Bring the firework show to home: play it on TV or project it on an outdoor home movie theater!

Stream the Macy’s Firework show on NBC.

PBS is hosting a patriotic concert and program called Capitol Fourth.
